Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector of Sri Lanka is undergoing a rapid reform in order to make it more vibrant, market responsive and prudent ensuring increased employability for youth. While demand for job-specific skills has been growing, the enrollment for industry sectors and other courses is considered to be poor due to lack of awareness and negative attitude towards TVET.Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training and the Institutes under its purview, offer Career Guidance and Career Counselling service to target groups including students, job seekers and parents.
- SSDP offers wide range of career guidance services, intended to assist people, of any age and at any point throughout their lives to make educational, training and occupational choices and to manage their careers. SSDP also engages in social marketing campaign, which is a dynamic approach to social change that uses commercial marketing tactics to promote social goods that can benefit an entire community rather than a single person.
- SSDP and the Institutes implement Social Marketing and Career Guidance activities at the national and district level. District level activities are being implemented through District Coordinating Committees (DCCs) which represent all the Vocational Training Center in a district, while national level programme is being implemented by SSDP in collaboration with Vocational Training Division of the MSDVT and Institutions.
